Africans will represent 40% of the global workforce.
Over the next 75 years, the world will experience significant demographic shifts. While most societies will get older, African countries will grow as a result of having more children than the rest of the world. The UN projects that working-age adults living in Africa will increase from 16% today to 40% by 2100.
For years, Henry Kaestner, co-founder of Solving the World's Greatest Problems, has argued that investing in Africa is a profound spiritual and economic imperative for Christian entrepreneurs: “This is the time for a Christ follower to pray intently about investing in Africa… It may soon be even riskier not to invest in Africa.”
Christians must also invest in Africa missionally. For almost 50 years, Don Stephens and Mercy Ships has brought hope and healing to tens of thousands of Africans. In its excellent "State of the Great Commission Report," the Lausanne Movement notes that “sub-Saharan Africa’s youthful Christian population ensures the region’s centrality to global Christian growth for decades to come.”
Africa is raising the next generation of global Christian leaders, entrepreneurs, and workers. How will we serve them?
